President Duterte declares December 8 a special non-working holiday in PHL

The House of Representatives has already approved the house bill 5241 declaring December 08 as a Special Non-Working Holiday.

December 08 has been declared as a special non-working holiday in celebration of the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of Mary.

The holiday has been declared after the House of Representatives approved the house bill 5241 considering December 8 as a special non-working holiday every year.

The Majority Leader and Ilocos Congressman Rodolfo Fariñas who is the author of the bill said that the holiday was declared to give time to devotees in commemorating the Blessed Virgin Mary.

“December 8 was declared a holy day of obligation by Pope Clement XI in 1708 for Catholics all over the world, in honor of the holiness and purity of the Blessed Virgin Mary,” Fariñas said quoted by RMN.

Foreign countries including Guam and Malta were also commemorating Feast of the Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary wherein devotees take a day off from their classes and work to observe the date.
However, the house bill might still need the President and Senate’s approval in order to become a law.
